Horror Mix

I haven’t done one of these for a while and thought I get into the Halloween spirit this year. This mix mainly consists of music from some of my favourite horror films and soundtracks.

Expect haunting music from The Evil Dead, The Fog, Nightmare on Elm St, Demons, Phenomena, Phantasm and tracks from musicians Bauhaus, Goblin and Claudio Simonetti.

I hope you enjoy it!

Apocalypse Now Mix

This mix has been something I've wanted to make for some time now, as far back as 2015 when I started these mixes.

The film is an obvious classic, certainly one of my favourites. I'm a big fan of cinema that takes you on a journey, so I wanted to recreate the audio journey the film takes you on with this mix. The track order is in the sequence of the film soundtrack, which gave me a format to follow.

The mix is mainly compiled of the original music by Carmine Coppola but includes Richard Wagner, Flash Cadillac, The Rolling Stones and The Doors.

There are also songs from 'The Apocalypse Now Sessions' by The Rhythm Devils, a percussion band set up by the two former Grateful Dead drummers. Francis Ford Coppola also asked them to record a soundtrack for the film. A rough cut of the film was screened, whilst they improvised the music on mainly custom-built percussion instruments. I recommend listening, but only some of the tracks made it on the final soundtrack, as well as this mix.

As always, I hope you enjoy it!

The Space Mix

The mix was inspired by 2016 being a record year for the discovery of new planets by NASA. it was the single largest finding of planets to date– a whopping 1,284 verified new planets!

To celebrate this news of recent exoplanet discovery, I decided to dedicate a mix to the sounds of Sci-Fi and music themed around space.

In this mix, you will hear songs by Isao Tomita, Brian Bennet, Eddie Henderson, Parliament, Sparks and more.

Halloween Reggae Mix - ‘Bone Yard Skank’

Another year, and another Halloween mix! A bit less Ska on this one but expect more creeping organ sounds, haunting vocals and eerie Dub, with a bit of Calypso thrown in at the end to finish it all off.

Featuring music by Desmond Dekker, The Hippy Boys, Clint Eastwood, General Saint, Pablo Gad and Devon Irons.

The Train Mix - ‘The Wanderers’

The third instalment of my theme based mixes. ‘The Train’ was one of the original ideas when thinking of what themed playlists to make. It was inspired by the track 'All Aboard' by Sly & Robbie whilst on a train journey. It seemed fitting as the movement of the train was in time with the beat of the song whilst gently swaying from side to side. Slowly I discovered more train themed songs mainly on a ska/reggae vibe but more genres started to creep into the playlist over time. With the likes of James Brown and The Temptations being names hard to miss.

The mix was also made to coincide with the opening night for 'The Wanderers' exhibition at Proof Gallery London in which Vents137 was exhibiting.

I find music is the perfect companion when travelling on the train as I'm sure many others do, so I hope this finds you well on yours. Enjoy

Twin Peaks Mix - ‘It is happening again’

With the long awaited and eagerly anticipated Season 3 around the corner, I felt it worth revisiting the series and the music especially. Any fan will no doubt agree that the series would not be quite the same without Badalamenti's input, and this mix is a celebration of that melancholic, yet uplifting ambience. All songs are taken from Seasons 1, 2 and feature film Fire Walk With Me.

So enjoy the haunting yet dreamy sounds of Angelo Badalamenti’s Fender Rhodes, the Log Lady and much more...

Reggae Mix # 1

The first in a series of mixes from a long standing music influence. I have always had a fondness of Jamaican music, especially when it came to Ska and the Rocksteady beat. This may have something to do with being into The Specials and The Clash at a younger, more impressionable age, and how it influenced and resonated within their music.

Some mixes in the future will be dedicated to selected genres within Jamaican music, but for now enjoy the sounds of Slim Smith, John Holt, Prince Buster, Al Barry, Pat Kelly and More....

Enjoy

The Sea Mix - ‘A Mystic Sea Voyage’

This is the forth instalment of my theme based mixes. Day dreaming of travelling to far away exotic lands on a mystic Sea adventure during the long winter months has been the inspiration for this mix. With the influence of childhood memories such as Stingray, Thunderball, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and other classic sea adventure films. Artists include Bing Crosby, Alfred Newman, The Ink Spots and a side of the Beach Boys I was unfamiliar with.

So sit back, drift off and enjoy the mix.
